Camper Bead Program

All Campers will receive an opportunity to receive a bead throughout the course of Camp.  All the Team Leaders and Leaders will assist the campers with understating the true meaning of Character Development, Leadership & Volunteerism, Sports & Play, Education & Literacy, Arts & Humanities, and Offsite Exploration.
 
Below is a template that will be posted in each classroom to review each morning and throughout the day.

White YMCA Camper The bead YMCA Camp Participation. You’re a YMCA camper. You deserve it!
Red Character Development Teaching the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through team work, practice and determination. Uphold the Character Commitment made and our camp pledge to earn the valued bead. Lead by example practicing healthy food choices while also participating in nutrition program.
Orange Leadership & Volunteerism Igniting a desire within young leaders to make a difference in the world around them through service. Offering a helping hand to campers & camp staff while contributing to planning/facilitation of camp activities. Organizes program areas, plays key role in service projects.
Yellow Sports & Play Promoting fun activities that build athletic, social and interpersonal skills Set personal goals around sports, play, and physical activity. Earn this bead as you accomplish self determined goals.
Green Education & Literacy Developing young minds through history, science and everything in between, all while encouraging personal growth and a positive self image. Participation in reading and character development. award. Fully engaged participation in Reading Programs, helping others and achieving personal goals earns you a green!
Dark Lilac Arts & Humanities Engaging youth in activities that foster creativity, character development and an
appreciation for other cultures
Participate in Art as well as art appreciation. Break out of yourself, express your creativity, respect, and appreciation for others cultures to earn this special award.
Royal Blue Offsite Exploration: Expanding kids’ knowledge of the world around them through travel and new experiences. Excepting fun and exciting new ways to explore the world around us. Examine the world around you offer ideas and suggestions to improve the environment through camp.

Sports & Play Weekly Themes

At the Heinrich YMCA Summer Camp we will be incorporating weekly Sports & Play themes throughout the course of our 11 Week Camp.  Each week, your child will be able to be introduced to sports in a manner which is educational as well as active.  Campers will learn the basics of the sport and throughout the week progress in the sport and be able to participate in a scrimmage on Fridays.

Week 1:  Basketball
Week 2:  Soccer
Week 3:  Volleyball
Week 4:  Yard Games
Week 5:  Baseball
Week 6:  Flag Football
Week 7:  Kickball
Week 8:  Track & Field
Week 9:  Bowling
Week 10:  Golf
Week 11:  Invent a Sport

Camp Begins Monday, June 9

Although Camp begins June 9, we have had some amazing workshops for the Summer Camp Staff.  The training workshops started Friday evening at the Heinrich YMCA and then we went to the Durango YMCA on Saturday for additional trainings and workshops.

We will be hosting our onsite specific training this week to get the staff all geared up for WEEK 1 of Summer Camp.  We have a lot of experience, knowledgeable and high energy staff that are looking to make a positive impact on your child(ren) this Summer!  So come on down this week and get registered.

Summer Camp Training Kickoff

Summer Camp Training Kickoff! Take a look at these wonderful Leaders getting geared up for Summer.  We kicked it off with a BBQ, impact stories and why we all want to be apart of the team at the YMCA! Starting tonight, through June 8, these Leaders will go through several YMCA training sessions, so your Camper will feel at home during Camp.  Hope all of our campers are getting their rest for camp to start in a little more than a week!
